こんにちは、洋書コミックにまで手を伸ばし始めて収集つかなくなっている、Aki です。

今年読んだ中で、圧倒的1位の本です（Jeffery Deaver は除く）。

「Wonder」、邦題は「ワンダー」です。

書店では邦訳版は毎回のように目にしていましたが、何故か手にとることはありませんでした。

全く別の本、「Fault in Our Stars」と表紙がなんとなく似ていて、ごっちゃにすらなっていました（夏にようやく両方読みました）。

主人公の Auggie は 10歳の男の子。

生まれつき顔に障害を持ち、大きな手術などの理由で学校へは通わず、家で勉強をしてきました。

両親の説得もあり、Auggie は 5年生から始めて学校へ通うことになります。

それまでは、社会から切り離された場所での生活を送っていた Auggie。

顔を隠すため、ヘルメットを被って外出していたこともありました。

そんな彼の新しい生活を描いています。

この本の特徴は、章の短さ、視点の切り替わりです。

どちらも割と最近では見かけるスタイルですが、とにかく読みやすい。

語り手が Auggie から友達に切り替わり、姉に切り替わり、と本を読む手が止まりません。

読みだしてから読み終わるまで、一度も本を置くことなく一気読みしたのはこの本が初めてです。

Aki はこの本は図書館で借りたのですが、映画化もされているそうで、その本には映画の場面も載っていました。

スピンオフ作品もあります。

こちらもおすすめで、恐らく Wonder を読めば、自然に読むことになると思います。

My today's review is "Wonder" by R. J. Palacio.

Best book I've ever read this year.

"Wonder" was published 5 or 6 years ago and I've known this book for a long time.

I don't know why I didn't take it, but finally I took it in the library where this book was introduced as a new version (the book includes pictures taken from the movie).

A 10-year-old boy Auggie sends a life having facial anomalies.

He has been taking homeschool education from his mother mostly due to his conditions.

Now, Auggie goes to school for fifth grade.

He used to wear a helmet all the time when going outside. He didn't like catch any attention. 

But now, he goes to school.

What makes this book unique and page-turner is its narrator.

Each chapter is short and the narrator often changes: Auggie, his sister, his friends, etc.

You can read stories from other perspectives, preventing to stop reading this book.

There is another book, "Auggie & Me", featuring other characters in this book, which is also highly recommended. 

"Sometimes it's good to start over."
